You can definitely do that, and a lot of Google Contacts is simple. And you're probably thinking like I did, well, it's built in, so let's just use this and make it simple. If you're thinking of using Google Contacts, you're probably already using Google Workspace.

It was as simple as showing people how to go to the website and how to edit a couple of contacts, and maybe organize them in a couple of different groups.

Now, in terms of being able to actually organize your contacts into meaningful lists, categorize them, add additional information, that was all pretty straightforward as well. It basically works by default, so if you're emailing somebody they'll be added to your contact list automatically. Getting started with Google Contacts is remarkably simple. We need something to track contacts, make sure they're not gone, and hopefully be able to eventually share them across teams. And so from our perspective, it wasn't really logical to invest in a system that would give us additional features that we probably didn't need. For something like contact management, there isn't a lot that it needs to do. The biggest reason for using Google Contacts is because it was simply built in. We didn't really consider much in the way of anything else. When we switched to Google Workspace a couple of years ago, we ended up using Google Contacts because it was already included. It happened to come with the email system, so that's what we ended up using before. For more reviews like these, please click the link below.īefore using Google Contacts, we used the Zimbra contact system, built into Zimbra, our previous email system. I'm Justin, DevOps engineer, and I give a Google Contacts four out of five stars. I also added the same rule, but for the incoming calls.Justin S.: Hi. That fixed it for in my calls! Thank You David! I have never had a problem with my texts getting through to my facebook calls, and unfortunately if you do I do not think prefixer will fix that problem for you. When number matches ".*" (that is "period asterisk") > hit ok and scroll down to actions Anyway, here is how to fix the problem (At least for me) I'm assuming that this is the reason the + sign problem has been popping up for us American callers because they were trying to fix a problem for international callers. Unfortunately, the rule templates on the 253 below site that David linked to is to ADD the + sign for international callers. However, unlike the Ally, the Droid seems to use his regular format number instead of the facebook one.

Guess I should also mention that I have a Motorola Droid, but it seems to handle the contact numbers a little differently in that I do see the two contact numbers for my Dad in my contacts, the regular format xxx-xxx-xxxx plus the one from facebook +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. No Google Voice, no third party apps beyond Angry Birds for her grandson to play, no root, etc. My Mom is not technical and has nothing added to her phone. And of course, you can't edit the facebook portion of the contact. And as the other posters have mentioned, clicking on the +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx number to dial it results in a failed call cause the Ally formats the number as +011-xxx-xxx-xxxx in the phone app and Verizon doesn't like that. The Ally is using this as his primary number and seems to be ignoring the same number from the manually entered contact info. Well the Facebook sync is bringing down the same number from his facebook info and adding it to his contact entry as +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. And of course, I get the support call from her So as an example, she has a contact entry for my Dad in her contacts with his cell number formatted as normal (no +1 in front). This just started happening on my Mom's Ally as well. So now facebook has to change the way contacts are handled and make it interface with the contacts API google made before they allow facebook sync back on the later devices.įor anyone who wants to argue this isn't true: Īlso, this seems terrible right now, but if facebook complies, the contact sync will be much smoother.

Facebook uses it's own API instead of Google's, and though Google made an exception for them, they got tired of Facebook doing things like syncing its own way. Thats why google pulled facebook syncing from the nexus s and later devices with the 2.3.3 update. and there is no real "easy" way to get the contacts back. Just a heads up for you, your contacts may not sync with google anymore since facebook syncs the contacts now. I dont use facebook, but i know this isn't a "bug" its a "feature".

Yeah, facebook does it, so it auto-dials country code if you're outside of the country.
